Saturday Night Live is an Emmy Award-winning comedy produced by NBC which has gone through 39 successful seasons. During the TV show, different skits are acted out in a parody manor by professional actors. One skit, The Weekend Update, is a well known skit which discusses popular news on an international scale. On October 5, during The Weekend Update skit, the show discussed the recent release of Grand Theft Auto and the violence and hostility examplified in the game. The main character of this section, named Pat Lynhart, acts as a Connecticut mother who has played Grand Theft Auto since its release. Though the skit is meant to serve as a comedic act, the writers and producers have things acted out so that parents can both learn about the violence of the video game as well as enjoy the comedic element.

In many news reports, people have discussed the relationship between violent video games and gun violence. In this news release, anchor Daniel Wilkerson explains that Vice President Joe Biden recently met with researchers in the gaming industry about the quality of recent violent video games and if they are influencing poor behavior in their players.
